Welcome Pilgrims - Let me tell you about this joint called Partizane

I see another diaspora on the tubes.
Some of our friends are closing shop and others are just quieting down. Many people are just running out of things to say since it's been such a long strange trip. I'm sometimes wordless for days on end, but Partizane is fine when I shut up because, well because we're sort of a team and there'll be somebody posting in my absence.
We're like many blogs that have a group of writers, yet we're different too. But I'll come back to that in a bit.
A little of my own history and what drove me to create this experiment in adult communications. I think it was Cal who ealier today called it an experiment and I think that hit the nail on the head.
So, I can be a royal pain in the butt. I'm one of those snarky, ADHD commenters that can sometimes torment a serious blogger. I can also be very serious myself and take things like my belief in women a little too seriously at times. I'm a Dennis Kucinich lover, but a realist Clinton Democrat. Wait!. I'm no longer a Democrat since formally becoming an Indi this spring.
I've been politically posting, not blogging, since my complete and crazy support for Howard Dean on Democraticunderground. The Dean Kerry wars on DU were just as nasty as the Clinton Obama battles on Daily Kos last year. I made what i thought were many friends on DU and even attended a real world get together in Cambridge with about 25 or 40 folks from all over the north east. Had a great chat that evening with someone I still respect, Will Penn. But that was back in '04 when I did the proper Dem thing and proclaimed my support of Kerry when Dean dropped out
My first diaspora was in leaving DU with many other Hillary supporters. Some you know like Taggles who went by another name at DU. She and I canvassed together in Cranston during the Rhode Island primary. So we Hill supporters were pretty much rail roaded off DU, a place I had donated many dollars to over the years. A place I considered my second home. I was on DU almost 24 hours a day and it hurt like hell to leave. I've since been banned.
We, or most of us landed at Daily Kos where I quickly got involved with a positively criminal group ;-) called the Flying Monkey Squadron. A bunch of writers under the guiding light of Alegre and Campskunk. Dang it but we had fun and always went to those cocktail parties thrown by Goldberry. Until she got herself banned. Goldberry's (you know her as riverdaughter) banning was the beginning of the end at dKos so we began to look around for a new home again. The world famous writer's strike was a fun way to exit en masse and give Marcos a finger on the way out the door.
We went brieftly to a new place I helped Alegre build, called HillarysBloggers then very quickly we started to discover MyDD where we Hillary people felt somewhat welcome even though it already had it's share of O'bots. MyDD was a good and fun time too and I'm sort of proud that I posted on what Marcos calls the Blog Father. Alas, things did not work out at MyDD and we eventually went home to the newly re-named Alegres Corner. And, well eventually some of us couldn't stay there any longer. That was one year ago, when Hillary bagged it and certain people expected us to all jump on board the O train.
Some, like me, couldn't or wouldn't jump on the train. We prefer it here under the bus with other castoffs of the blogs. I do by the way, still cross post once in awhile at NoQuarter, Widdershins, recently at Dkos for Iran and rarely at my friend Alegre's site. We're all a big family aren't we?
Ok. Enough of the history crap. We are as I said, a group of writers. But where we are different is that anyone can post without moderation. If we like the post and someone is paying attention then it will get promoted to the front page. The only rule is the only rule. (I sort of lied. we also believe in fair use. The rules are here)
The Rule:
Disrespect of others is the only thing not tolerated here.
Civil Discourse is the rule of the day.
Seriously. Not all people here are former Hillary supporters, though most are. We even have an Obama supporter or two. But we treat each other with respect and expect the same in return. We really believe in Voltaire. Example: As I said, I consider myself a proud liberal (I hate the overused word Progressive) and I am almost violently opposed to guns, yet a few of my best friends on Partizane are strong defenders of the NRA. Once in awhile I'll lose control and post again about guns then get into a blowout argument with Creeper. But we leave the F words at the door, yell at each other like family and give each other the respect everyone who speaks up deserves.
To me the only ones I don't respect are the ones who shut up. Writing on blogs is not easy nor is it always fun to bare your soul. I respect all who value this country, this planet and their fellow people enough to write about it.
I built this place using software to as closely replicate dKos as i could. Yes, I love his code. I would love to have a blog that automatically refreshes while we comment. I think that cost him dearly. But what I so love about dkos is that me and my seldom read posts are kept in their own section, my blog. We have issues with a weird editor and a coder who isn't too good. But each and every user here has their own blog. Here's Kim or BJ, twandx and of course madamab and marge. And also the poet Mountain Lion and too many others to list. I just want to try and give an idea of what is a little different than your standard wordpress blog and my sincere apologies to all I didn't mention. I'm sure I'll hear about it. Yeah I better mention our resident investment guru and lover of all things Apple, Ron. Ron changed his negative name when he realized we're stuck with Bama.
So in a nutshell or hamster wheel. Partizane is the anti-echo chamber. If you want to be bored reading and writing among a group who all agree all the time, this ain't the place. if you think the world might be better if we could all at least try to listen to each other, then please hang around a bit. I'm sure that eventually someone will say something you love or it pisses you off so much you just have to reply. Just do it with the same respect you'd want in return.

A most excellent post NH! Partizane was a welcoming place for me, right from the first time I visited. I have made so many friends here and you will never know what that has meant to me. NH, you've created something very unique and special here. The fact that differing opinions are allowed and welcomed makes it a lively and interesting place.
I too enjoy This Site hampster....thanks for creating it...and making it available...I enjoy coming here..you have great Articles...good writers and always something interesting to read..over an interesting and diverse Spectrum...Many good comments here on Issues or just areas of individual interest...From Fishing to nature to Politics or life..its always enjoyable...Many Good photos, and Cartoons.....too..

I wish you all a Happy and enjoyable Fourth of july Holiday weekend..We will be spending ours with our kids and grandkids down at the marina where they keep thier boat...we will be able to see the Big Fireworks displaying out over the Bay from there..weather will be clear on an 85 degree day...
HAPPY 4th...!
You can talk about fishing and stuff in here? Koool! I love to fish, but I absolutely stink at it. If I ever get around to writing my memoirs, I'm gonna title my chapter on fishing "Seven Years, Fourteen Fish".
Thats Funny...What kind of Fish..?? I fish mostly for Salmon, Steelhead, ttrout or Cod...but always LOVE to be doing it..
I feel them biting, but then they are not there! When I do reel one in, it's the size of a potato chip, and it jumps off the hook, like it was a mirage.
not catching.
Ever hear anyone say I'm going fish catching?

We talk about all kinds of stuff here Swell. You never know where the conversation will lead. Partizane is a very cool place. You will really like it here.
It's mandatory.
WHERETHEHELL IS MY ERA???
I'm sure glad your here at Partizane, Mountain Lion. You always add something interesting to the conversation. Have a wonderful 4th with your family! I bet those fireworks will be beautiful over the bay.
You always have nice things to say...and your comments are always interesting..Have a great 4th too...!!
you know I haven't defended the NRA. They're a bunch of gun nuts. I just defend the Second Amendment. That reminds me...I still haven't retrieved my pistol from BIL. Thanks for the reminder. <evil grin>
This was a really good history of our merry band. Concise, true and readable. I didn't realize they'd banned you at DU. That's hard to believe. You're nowhere near as nasty as I am sometimes and I have yet to be banned anywhere. Must not be working hard enough at it.
So anyway, welcome newcomers. We're glad to see you. Leap right in. All civil discourse gladly accepted. Tell your friends about us. We'd like to see them, too.
WHERETHEHELL IS MY ERA???
that's the one that allows our National Guard (the modern militia) to be armed so they can defend us from each other during times of crisis like hurricanes.

I'm sure there are more like me who came late to the blogging world, finally landing in friendly territory only to find references made to things that we did not understand and no instructions for where a glossary might be found.
I visited around the blogisphere and landed at kos with no idea that there were groups within groups within groups. I just bought the story that blogs were there for everyone to express their point of view. I did, for three posts and a whole shitload of really nasty comments followed by a silent banning.
Silent because no one told me I was banned. I just could not post nor could I comment on the posts of others. Being of the hard headed variety I shopped around but really got with it when a Brit friend suggested Riverdaughter. I checked out many of her suggested blogs and discovered the "Flying Monkeys" without any idea of what they were and that I had been among them in spirit, but separate in contact.
Sufficient to say, I found these monkeys to be extremely intelligent - finally someone with correct thinking - just like me.

But it took Partizane to seal the blogging deal with me. Where people could disagree without being disagreeable - at least most of the time. Right now it seems some are stressed out for many reasons, but I truly trust that the prodigal sons and daughters will return when they have experience the severe post Partizane depression that comes from losing contact with this bunch of truly wonderful human beings.

Great Post, Hampy! Unfortunately one of my favorite blogs may close down
. There'd I'd be first thing, should I start with Partizane today or Uppity, but then the second site would be the one that didn't get picked first that day. I may not always add a comment, but I greatly enjoy reading the articles and the comments. It's nice to read different opinions or that someone may agree with you, but may also have another take on the matter.
And certain blogs do become like a second home. Please don't go anywhere!
her post is what drove me to finish this one I'd been working on. she also upset me.
I can't count the times she had me rolling in laughter, either from her writing or another new cat image or animation. But her emphasis on money really got to me. Sure i'd love for this place to become the next dKos and a full-time job. But that pie in the sky sure as heck isn't why i'm here and I like to hope most of the political bloggers I read do it from the need to spew rather than a need for dollars.

That, sir, is obvious. Careful...your love is showing.

Nice to see another of the old gang from DU. (I was VelmaD there.) I miss what that place used to mean to me and I've never found another site since that ever even remotely felt like "home". I still value some of the close, real-life friendships that were born there. But the sexism there got to be too much for me even before the Hillary-bashing during the primary.
I've been wandering in the wilderness, looking for someplace online that would put up with me for a while now.
You found it. Welcome to Partizane.
WHERETHEHELL IS MY ERA???
I really miss the forum format. I've tried to get it going here but nobody cares. someday I'll try again.
I used to spend useless hours in the lounge discussing music or someones personal struggles. it was a true community.
I still recommend DU for the dem and obama loyalists.
Glad you found us Velma and hope you can stay awhile.

Who doesn't care about the forum format? It sounds good to me. I like talking to people about almost anything...not just politics.
Nice to meet you DarthVelma. I hope to see you here a lot.
The only thing you've missed; I'd like to add:
New Hampster (Hampy) actually walks his talk. Unlike the inflated heads that run so many blogs, he is interested in different opinions, and his democratic viewpoint is evident if you have followed the posts and most of the discussions here. As a result, Partizane is a "marketplace of ideas", so it's a learning place and some of us believe we actually become better people and citizens as a result of the discourse. For many of us, Partizane is a safe haven, because we learned the hard way that too many sites out there exist simply to promote personal political agendas and a specific mindset. Partizanians prefer to think for ourselves, and we do.
Very well put, all of it. And without rancor -- something I don't think I'd manage to do, if it had been me having to write it.
I thought I'd reached a little, teensy amount of blogger-following, earlier this year -- ah, well. (Will just have to build it back up again.) -- This, of course, is with regard to the rest of us blogging here.
Now, one reason I enjoy blogging here, other than the diversity of opinion, is that I don't have to worry if I'll be stepping over the line here -- because so long as you're not a troll, you aren't stepping over the line. ;) (And while I might well be disagreeable on some days, I definitely am not a troll.)
There's no excuse for this, DNC. You screwed the pooch; time to pay the piper.
I have always found you to be very courteous and very civil, LSekhmet. I'm glad you're here.
