According to the Alaska Daily News, the Governor has just announced:
"the most ambitious renewable energy goals in the nation" and has "called for 50 percent of Alaska's power to be generated by renewable resources by 2025."
Have you seen much coverage of this by our corporate media pundits --all those guys who usually love to talk about progressive issues like global warming? You'd think they'd be doing cartwheels over this!
As I reported last fall (
http://www.partizane.com/node/376), right after Palin first took office as Governor, she threw her support behind the effort to create a state-level Climate Control Cabinet and under her governance Alaska became one of the first states to do so. In this same vein, in January of 2008, she announced the appointment of an Energy Coordinator to activate a statewide energy plan, now approved by the state legislators, which would include earnings from a Renewable Energy Fund for implementing alternative projects, including hydro, wind, geothermal and biomass.
I'm sorry to resort so much to cut and paste tonight, but this Alaska newspaper articles says it all. Back in the Governor's saddle again, Palin unveiled at a news conference last week:
"a guide listing alternative energy assets of every village in Alaska. Those resources can be developed to wean far-flung villages off electricity generated by burning diesel fuel..... The community guide is a primer on alternative energy sources as well as an inventory for projects. For example, the accompanying documentation shows that Scammon Bay, a mile from the Bering Sea in western Alaska, has the potential for a wind-diesel hybrid project, and that 700 miles to the northeast on the Yukon River, the village of Circle has potential for generating electricity with geothermal resources. ......
Pat Lavin, an attorney for the National Wildlife Federation, has called Palin's announcement "a defining moment in Alaska's history." ....
Palin energy adviser Steve Haagenson, who oversaw the village report, also unveiled the first 77 projects picked for grants from the $100 million Alaska Renewable Energy Fund. They range from wind farms in the Aleutians, Kodiak and Delta Junction to a landfill gas recovery project in Anchorage. .......
Joe Balash, Palin's aide on oil and gas, said there will be a continuing effort to find new power generation sources for the Railbelt, likely through a new corporation that can handle projects beyond the capability of individual utilities. Talks have been ongoing with utilities, he said, and legislation likely will be introduced in the 90-day 2009 session, which kicks off Tuesday."

High fives to Sarah Palin! She's sure more of a doer than a talker. Keep on doing, Governor!
I just saw Sarah on the Glen Beck show yesterday on Fox. I don't care much for Beck, but since she was on, I watched. She looked really good and was really at ease and confident during the interview. She has done a lot for the people of Alaska. The media is never going to cut her any slack, simply because she is a strong, conservative woman with a deep religious conviction.
the media is not going to give her a break. They tried to ruin her, but she seems to have come out of that encounter stronger and wiser. I give the Governor a great deal of credit for the accompishments Sharyn discussed in her diary.
This woman is not done and her national political career is going to be something to watch. Sharyn is right Palin is a doer. Like Hillary Clinton, she gets things done.
They hated Hillary too until she came on Obama's team -- and now she's wonder woman.
I think it has a great deal to do with why they hate her. I believe that the MSM wants all women running for office to be very liberal in their thinking. I forgot to mention that they also considered her a "rube from the backwoods." Women running for public office should not be pigeonholed. Why they hated Hillary was probably a combination of several things. HDS (Hillary Derangement Syndrome) with the media seemed to start about the time all the other candidates running dropped-out, and it was just him and her. They just fell head over heals for the guy. For them, I think it was a combination of him being the "new kid" who was also African American. They could see history in the making with him and they jumped on it. I'm just speculating. It is just my opinion, anyway.
Glad for the focus on whats really going on..What Female does the MSM or any other Publication focus on..in a Positive WAY..Only thier OWN Female Elistist in the Media business..so they Have to be Tolerated by thier Male Co Horts..and many play the Media game to get the Bucks...
reality is they too are being EXPLOITED by the male dominated Media/Publication Instry..who prefer to make all Women look bad...other than ""Thier Own.." They real are "PIMPED"..and its all a MEDIA SELL..
Look how many times we hear about Paris...and Britney...over and over again..as if the media is saying .."These are typical Female Role Models..nothing but Bimbos.."
They Pimp women in Books...magazines and Sales Advertisements..like the "Industry" game of showing Women and even very young girls in thier bras and underpants...WHY>.Sexula Exploitation..just like all those Disgusting Porn magazines and Movies and Pimps on the street who Exploit women any way they can...
Time for some "SLAP DOWN"..as far as I am concerned..and thats why I Like PUMA..and being here...I am ready for some of that Slap Down..PUMA Style..
I May be Male..(There are male PUMAS too..) and I got My Own Claws and teeth..
So am I and I've had it with the media sexism. With Palin, and to some degree with Hillary, I think it was more of a "class" thing on the left. They think Hillary is married to trailer trash and Palin is trailer trash. Certainly not the sort that would be uber comfortable on the Georgetown cocktail party circuit. Can't have "those" people in power.
At least, I imagine that's how the Beltway fools think.
It's cool that banshee thought I was a woman. I guess my writing is gender-neutral. Of course, I owe any civility on my part to my wife who trained me. At first, I had strong objections but eventually, I saw the wisdom of doing things her way.
Hooray for ALL PUMAs!
There's an article in the New Yorker that shows the class thing, talking about Kirsten Gillibrand vs Caroline Kennedy. It was discussed at the Confluence or Alegre's iirc.

...conservative woman with a deep religious conviction." Bingo, you nailed it. The "unqualified" crap is a red herring, because they don't have the courage of their own convictions to say what their rub really is with her. It's just dishonest to the core.
"Right wing sledge hammers never, ever help us." Pacific John
...all that previous piling on had nothing to do with her being a woman
, of course, it was simply because she was UNQUALIFIED.

They don't like any woman to be a member of the NRA. I like Sarah a lot, and Hillary and Gillibrand. They're all great women. Hell with Maddow & company.
All those lovely folks who think their Thanksgiving turkeys commit suicide so they can eat well. I absolutely agree that these are great women and fine public servants!
you really get it, don't you? Nobama, Mountain Lion, and Hampy do, too. I'm so pleased. Thank you.
it will be interesting to see why exactly they pick on her, it will reveal what drove them crazy about Palin.
Exactly RalphB - their Thanksgiving turkeys commit suicide LOL! We have all been too removed from our agrarian roots for too long. To these haters who can't handle women with guns newsflash - to eat meat, somebody first has to kill it!!
and tell people about this amazing Republican woman we found, she fought corruption and accomplished some breakthrough deals on energy, cut out corporations and got the state to own more of the proceeds, and even got her state on the renewable energy track. Totally self-made person. Then friends will say who is this Republican?
For now, they seem to know nothing about Palin.
Your blog has the best account of this that I have seen, because you also include Sarah's previous environmental initiatives. I'd like to send people directly to your blog, but some of them are not familiar with our side of the blogosphere and might miss the sarcasm in your first sentence and be confused. Would you consider moving that sentence to the end of your entry?
Send this post off to your friends!
Sorry for the delay in responding -- sidetracked by work!
Thanks much! I've put links to you at PumaResponders.blogspot.com and MidstreamNews.blogspot.com and just snuck a plug into POlitical Radar.
Thanks for this info Sharyn.
We know that the media will never stop hating on Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton. They are down to earth people. They aren't aristocrats or royalty. For that alone they will never be forgiven.
Look at the NYT and in particular MOdodo having a hissy fit because Caroline Kennedy wasn't selected to fill SoS Clinton's senate seat. Hard-working, smart women aren't welcome unless they have the right name.
There are many issues with which I do not agree with Palin. In this one I think she's dead on. She and Schwartzenagger seem to be the only two Governors making big pushes for green technology. Where are the Democrats? I thought they owned this issue.
There are some issues I don't agree with Sos Clinton about too. I hate that she's now a part of the Obama Administration that I loathe.
But one thing I have for both of these women is respect. That's something I do not have for our corrupt and dysfunctional media.

"But one thing I have for both of these women is respect."
Our respect. Respecting those we may not agree with comes easy when they respect our intelligence with sound arguments for their case. This is something I fear my generation neglected to pass to the Cheeto Generation.
thanks Marge

Meanwhile, we're all waiting with baited-breath about what Obama's executive order re: tailpipe emissions will really say...
Environmental Three-Card Monte? Obama *May* Allow Grant Emissions Waivers to States Today? (But Other Policies Already Having a Negative Effect on Bears)
That is such great news. Thank you for keeping us posted and proving once again, reality shows a much clearer picture, than O-hype and media bias.
Just when I thought that I couldn't hate Chris Matthews any more, he says this about Sarah Palin.
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/01/23/matthews-palins-book-will-do-well-if-she-can-read/
NC girl. Because no matter how stupid and sexist and dishonest a thing he says today, he will undoubtedly say something worse tomorrow.
It tells us something about how the cretinous Matthews is regarded that even the equally cretinous Glenn Beck is hammering him in the ratings on his earlier show.
I don't like Beck but he did a very nice interview with Sarah Palin the other night and seems to be quite the fan. It seems he to has a special needs child and impressed with the way the Palins had handled the birth of Trig.
If you didn't see it there was a moment when Governor Palin was talking about how Trig, who is now 8 months old, had to get glasses. She said he's gotten chubby and that this chubby little kid with glasses is just so cute.
I admit it, this tough old fool actually teared up. But it's okay, cause I teared up over Katrina too.

a lot more. Matthews is one of biggest misogynists in television and that is saying a great deal. MSNBC is full od them.
It made me happy to read somewhere the other day that one of the reasons he decided not to run for the Senate from Pennsyvania is that his advisors determined that PUMAs and angry women would doom any chance he ever had. I loved reading that.
